Is it before or after Sunday? Do you know any calendar on which Someday appears? Of course not, and yet do you use Someday to describe when you are going to get something accomplished? When I am at a trading conference I hear Someday conversations more than any other day of the week: · Someday I will have enough money to be a professional trader · Someday I will finish my business plan · Someday I will handle the discipline issues holding me back from earning more money Which Somedays do you hear yourself saying? Did you ever consider the message that you are installing in your subconscious mind? The fact is that Someday is a procrastination word. This means you do not see any way at this time or any specifically planned time in the future to accomplish what you claim to desire. As traders walk by my sign that says “Discipline Problems, Stop Here” they laugh and say, “This is the most important part of trading successfully” as many of them continue to walk by. Then there are those who mosey on into my booth and use the Someday word. Contrast these two examples with the trader who says, “I saw that you would be here” then they reveal their discipline issue and ask, “Where do I go from here?” One such individual was a floor trader who wanted to be a money manager. When I found out how much trading capital he had, I told him that he could not afford to have me work with him at this time. He retorted, “I can’t afford not to.” Within six months after we worked together, he had ten million dollars under management. I am not saying that this will happen to everyone with whom I work, but when you take away the Somedays, you will move in the direction you want to go. If you want to reach your goal tomorrow and not Someday, this is a plan that will help get there: 1. Decide the goal/dream that you want to achieve. 2. List every way possible and improbable that you can make it happen. 3. List all of the specific tasks that you can do right now and in the near future to make your goals a reality. 4. List all the assistance and alliances with others that can help you along the way. 5. Put the tasks in the order you can complete immediately and in the near future. 6. Set “Alive Lines” rather than “Deadlines” to complete your tasks and check the completed tasks as you accomplish them. 7. Give yourself rewards for completing your tasks such as saying “At-a-boy, you did a great job” or a small physical present like a book (that you now have to add to your “To Do” list to read). Each small task will lead to larger tasks until you reach your goal. You can be the person who makes things happen instead of the Someday person who procrastinates life away.
